Home Delivery Driver at Palo Alto Community Child Care
Every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month, from 10:45am-1:45pm

Home delivery volunteers deliver nutritious pre-boxed groceries to seniors and homebound individuals. At this particular site, volunteers deliver food using their personal vehicles. Volunteers load up their vehicles at Palo Alto Community Child Care Center and use route given to deliver to nearby house bound clients.

Volunteers receive a specific recipient list and deliver boxes directly to recipients’ doorsteps (using their personal phone to call/text recipients day-of as needed). The delivery is entirely contactless, and the majority of recipients are seniors and/or individuals living with disabilities or health challenges. This is a fun, physical volunteer activity that allows you to walk outside while providing much needed support to homebound community members.

Please note that this volunteer activity requires walking and repeated lifting of very heavy boxes that weigh 25lbs to 40 lbs. and is best suited for volunteers with strong mobility and no back issues. The volunteer must be willing and able to work with people of different backgrounds and nationalities, exhibit compassion and sensitivity, and maintain strict confidentiality of all member and volunteer information.

Home delivery volunteers must be at least 18 years of age (proof required) and able to pass a background check. Once you have completed your first volunteer shift, you can decide if you would like to commit to be a regularly scheduled, long-term volunteer. If you would like to complete additional deliveries, you must sign a Home Delivery Volunteer agreement and submit to a background check before the next volunteer event.

Description

Second Harvest of Silicon Valley is a private non-profit organization that collects and distributes more than 12 million pounds of food each month. We currently serve an average of over 500,000 individuals each month; 60% are low income families and 20% are seniors. By building collaborative networks, we efficiently distribute food by leveraging donations of money, food and human resources. But we cannot do it alone. We rely upon the energy and commitment of the local community to fight hunger. See more about our efforts at www.shfb.org.
