School-based Mentor

This role provides an opportunity to be a change agent working towards closing the achievement gap and removing barriers to learning for youth. Students are at the heart of our work and Mentors will help youth set goals, develop self-confidence and character, build leadership skills and provide access to external supports. Our program partners with schools to identify students who would benefit from a positive, adult role model that can give targeted social and emotional support as well as mentor students to be their best. Mentors will also learn about and build partnerships with community resources to assist their mentees and families.
Mentors will also engage in activities that directly address the impacts of Covid-19. By utilizing evidence based Social Emotional Learning curriculums, mentors will assist students with ............
- developing social awareness, self control, & interpersonal skills
- reducing disruptive behaviors
- improving academic performance
- managing own thoughts, feelings, words, & actions
- practicing teamwork & collaboration
- building strong study skills & habits

In fact, our local United Way Alliance on Aging and our Community School model each won runner-up awards to the prestigious "Common Good Award" given by United Way Worldwide nationally to a United Way initiative that is making real change in the community.
