A CASA Volunteer is a trained member of the community, appointed by a judge to speak for the
best interests of children brought into the judicial system. Attending an information session is the best way to learn about CASA and how you can Change a Child's Story. Attending an information session is the first step to becoming a CASA Volunteer.

Mission Statement
The mission of the First Judicial District CASA Association is to protect children today for stronger families tomorrow by providing trained, court appointed volunteers to advocate for the best interests of children and youth.
Description
The First Judicial District CASA Association is a not-for-profit organization whose volunteers advocate for victims of child abuse and neglect by serving as the child's voice in court. We serve children from birth to the age of 18 who are in the court system through no fault of their own. Certified CASA Volunteers meet with the children, families and all other parties who may provide information about the child. The information is put into a court report and presented to the Judge to assist him in making a decision regarding the child's life.

- Orientation or Training
- Training is approximately 32 hours. Volunteers average about 5-10 hours per month after the initial phase of the case. Volunteers are required to spend a minimum of one hour per month face to face with the child(ren) to whom they are assigned.
- CASA cases are typically ‘front-loaded.’ This means that cases require more time commitment during the initial stages as compared to later stages of a case.
