Patient Care Volunteer
- Visiting offering companionship, emotional support, and friendship
- Reading, writing letters, playing games
- Staying with the patient to allow family/caregiver to run errands or have an outing
-Child care to relieve a caregiver
- Telephone reassurance
BEREAVEMENT VOLUNTEER
The Bereavement Volunteer provides ongoing emotional support to families or significant others
of deceased hospice patients, as needed, for up to 13 months after the death of a patient.
Activities include, but are not limited to:
- Personal visits
- Condolence letters
-Telephone follow-up
- Support groups
ADMINISTRATIVE VOLUNTEER
The Administrative Volunteer activities may include, but are not limited to:
office/administrative tasks, as follows:
- Answers telephones and routes calls to appropriate staff
-Takes accurate messages and routes them to appropriate staff
- Provides limited information regarding agency service
- Files in a variety of records
-Makes inventory of supplies
-Assists with data entry and statistical report generation
community work:
-Plans and coordinates special functions
-Undertakes special projects

Heartland volunteers offer support, companionship and practical, compassionate help. Some interact directly with patients and families. Others prefer to work behind the scenes in the office setting. As a volunteer, you help determine which tasks you’re best suited to perform.
