BE THE VOICE!
The Vulnerable Adult Guardian ad Litem Program of South Carolina (VAGAL SC) is looking for dedicated volunteers to advocate for vulnerable adults, ages 18 and older, who are often victims of abuse, neglect, or exploitation and are in protective custody.
As a VAGAL volunteer, you will have the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of vulnerable adults. You'll build relationships with the adults and interact with their families, caregivers, social workers, and healthcare providers. Your role will involve gathering important information about the adult's situation, exploring solutions to improve their well-being, and providing impartial recommendations to the South Carolina Family Court.
Training includes a 1-day session, available either virtually or in-person, followed by two shadowing opportunities where you'll observe other Guardians ad Litem (GAL) in court.
We welcome and encourage volunteers from all professions and educational backgrounds. Your involvement can make a difference.

Mission Statement
The mission of the Vulnerable Adult Guardian ad Litem Program of South Carolina (VAGAL SC) is to advocate for the best interests of vulnerable adults who have been abused, neglected, or exploited in cases brought before the South Carolina Family Courts, by providing dedicated and compassionate volunteer guardian ad litem representation.
Description
We are seeking passionate volunteers to advocate for adults 18 and older with mental and/or physical impairments who have been placed into Adult Protective Services Emergency Protective Custody. These vulnerable adults are often victims of abuse, neglect, exploitation, and self-neglect. Your voice can make a difference in advocating for their well-being.
As a VAGAL volunteer, you will build relationships with the adults you support and provide unbiased recommendations to the court based on what is in their best interest.
Our VAGAL volunteers come from a wide range of professions and educational backgrounds. Some are retired, others are still working, but they all share a commitment to standing up for South Carolina's most vulnerable adults.
We serve all 46 counties in South Carolina and need volunteers throughout the state. This is a challenging yet incredibly rewarding volunteer opportunity. We look forward to hearing from you!
