The Milwaukee Grows Garden Network is made up of about 100 formerly vacant city lots who have been reclaimed as community green spaces, gardens and orchards, by garden leaders (volunteers) in the community. Groundwork Milwaukee's role is to help resource these sites with infrastructure and the people power to see these projects through!
In the winter months, volunteer opportunities are almost exclusively on Thursday afternoons (3-5pm) at our office. Join us indoors to help with behind the scenes tasks that support the Milwaukee Grows Garden Network and other programming. Tasks may include; priming, painting, organizing and preparing kits for the volunteer events ahead!

Mission Statement
Groundwork Milwaukee is a nonprofit organization and land trust. Our work is primarily done through (1) the transformation of brownfields into community spaces including gardens, orchards, art exhibits, and gathering places; (2) the facilitation of programs that are designed to educate, train, and empower at-risk youth, community members, veterans, and volunteers; and (3) the protection of urban waters through the installation of rain water harvesting structures, the strategic integration of green infrastructure, and habitat restoration for aquatic native species. Our work reflects the objectives of our national chapter Groundwork USA and our partnership with the National Park Service.
Description
Giving voice to community needs and aspirations is at the heart of the Groundwork mission. Groundwork Milwaukee families have consistently and clearly demonstrated their commitment to improving their neighborhoods, restoring their natural resources, and addressing climate change. Groundwork strives to support them in programs to bring green infrastructure upgrades to their communities, empower them to serve as stewards to our urban ecology, rivers and lakes, and inspire them to advocate for change.
It is an exciting time for Groundwork Milwaukee, we have started the planning and capital campaign for a 3 acre education park and EarthLab. This project will serves as an outdoor climate action park serving over 3000 students and their families each year. Working with cutting edge education and climate leaders regionally and beyond, the Groundwork Milwaukee EarthLab will advance a new model of experiential education, technical training, and mentoring to activate the unparalleled potential of these underserved communities.
