Scholars’ Rising Stars are college-aged volunteers who will work closely with the Scholars program manager and other volunteers to execute Project Scientist’s vision and advance the mission. Rising Stars will be responsible for assisting in the facilitation of weekly virtual meetings of future scientists ages 13-18. They will also be responsible for helping in the facilitation of smaller break out room meetings.

A Scholars’ Rising Star must have excellent communication skills and have experience with virtual platforms and other basic technology. Rising Stars must feel comfortable observing groups of up to 5 minors and ensuring appropriate relationships are maintained between participants and any guest mentors. Finally, Rising Stars should be passionate about STEM education and increasing diversity in STEM fields. As this is a volunteer position, Rising Stars will not receive monetary compensation but have the opportunity to gain other rewards such as education and mentoring experience, career exploration, and networking.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to expose a diverse population of young girls to a high quality STEM curriculum that inspires confidence in their pursuit of learning throughout the year.

Description

Project Scientist began in 2011 with a dream to increase diversity in STEM by inspiring girls. We have grown from serving 5 girls in our founder's guesthouse to serving more than 14,000 girls all across the country through both virtual and in-person programing. Our female-focused programming is available to any child ages 4-15 and introduces them to a variety of STEM topics, hands-on experiments and leading organizations and employees in the STEM field.

We created Project Scientist to change the world's view of "who" a scientist is and "what" a scientist does. We aim to transform the face of STEM by nurturing today's future scientists who will lead the world in solving tomorrow's greatest challenges! Every second of a girl's time with us is intentional and based off of the latest research of what drives and sustains girls' interest in STEM. We are determined to reach STEM girls and hold their hand through their PhD or as far as their STEM dreams take them because we believe that the future of STEM is female.
