At Friends For Life, every animal matters. Founded in 2002, Friends For Life introduced the no-kill shelter model to Houston - saving animals regardless of their breed, age or condition.
Houston-grown, we’re here to help our neighbors care for the pets they love.
We’re not finished until every animal has a safe home. Until then, we’ll be innovating, improving and tracking results to find the most effective ways to save lives.
Volunteers at our front desk help the front desk staff with their day-to-day activities-answering the phones, returning messages, interacting with visitors, answering questions from the public, keeping up with the calendar, directing people to the right place for appointments, getting the appropriate people for appointments and interviews.
There are different administrative tasks we could always use volunteers to help with. If you are good with data entry-type work, this may be the right fit for you.

Description
Friends For Life Programs
Adoption
75% of the hundreds of animals we have placed were classified by other area shelters as "unadoptable." Reasons other shelters would have ended their lives included: weighing less than 2 lbs, being over 7 years old, being injured, having treatable medical conditions or just being a member of certain breeds. Adoptable is what we, as a community, say it is. We have the power to redefine adoptable right now. Through our proactive placement programs, we redefine adoptable everyday.
Rescue and Rehabilitation
Friends For Life accepts animals of all breeds, all ages and in all health situations. No life is disposable. We routinely accept, rehabilitate, medically treat and adopt into loving homes, animals on whom other groups have given up.
Pet Retention
Keeping animals in good homes is a priority in building a no kill community. Friends For Life counselors provide advice on behavior, training and other concerns to help frustrated animal guardians change a difficult situation to make an animal a positive family member. In addition, we offer an animal food and supply bank to provide assistance to those who find themselves in temporarily difficult circumstances.
