Join Meals on Wheels and make a real difference-one delivery at a time. We are looking for compassionate drivers and bikers to deliver nutritious meals, a friendly hello, and a brief wellness check to seniors and homebound neighbors, helping them stay safe, nourished and connected to their community.

We currently have a high demand for deliveries in the Downtown Eastside and are looking for volunteers who are comfortable supporting this community. There’s a strong need for support in this area, and your help would make a significant difference, as we are currently unable to meet the demand. To help you feel confident and supported, we offer shadow shifts, where you can accompany an experienced volunteer to get familiar with the delivery process, route, and area.

Volunteer Impact:
Our dedicated volunteer team delivers over 400 meals a day, Monday - Friday.
Beyond meals, you’ll offer:

  • A friendly visit
  • An informal wellness check

Your check-in helps reduce isolation and provides peace of mind to both clients and their loved ones.

What does it take to be a Meals on Wheels Volunteer?

  • Only 2 hours per week (or less as a spare driver)
  • Making deliveries on a weekday of your choice between 10:30am and 1:00pm
  • Interested in making positive and friendly connections with isolated seniors

Why we do it:

  • To help keep seniors and isolated individuals live independently and confidently in their own homes
  • To help relieve stress on family caregivers

Why volunteer with CareBC?

  • A meaningful way to give back to your community
  • Flexible scheduling options
  • Supportive and welcoming staff and volunteer team
  • Ongoing training and support for volunteers
  • Mileage reimbursement
  • Confirmation of volunteer hours and reference letters available after a qualifying period

Qualifications:

  • Comfortable interacting with seniors
  • Strong Communication skills
  • Compassionate, patient and reliable

Other Requirements:

  • 18 years of age or older (volunteers under 18 can participate if accompanied by a guardian).
  • A cleared criminal record check. (CareBC can assist with this at no cost)
  • Willing to provide two references.
  • Proof of double COVID -19 vaccination (Vancouver Coastal Health recognizes Care BC as a health services provider because we support vulnerable clients).
