Summary: Help our Clients achieve their dreams of starting their own small business through Minnesota Family Investment Program better known as MFIP, is the state’s version of the federal welfare program, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, TANF. MFIP provides clients with cash, food support, medical and childcare assistance for a maximum limit of 60 months, or until they achieve full self-sufficiency where, not only do they strive to improve their professional skills but their overall financial situation as well.

From Uber/Lyft to Catering, and self-crafts to any other type of small business, such as restaurants or stores, self-employment is slowly taking precedence, whereby newly arrived individuals are seeking to benefit from. Whether they are well-established or are just beginning to lay the foundations of their business, they are making their own decisions, oftentimes with no prior experiences to being self-employed. Therefore, this internship is intended to give you the opportunity to work either one-on-one or in a group setting to ensure participates have the knowledge to successfully run their own business, and thus enabling them with the confidence in the long run.

o Other/Notes: Somali required Responsibilities: Responsibilities/Duties :
- Inform clients about the different business structures: Partnerships, LLC, C, S, and B Corp.
- Enform Clients that they may have to work more than a regular, 40-hour, full-time employee.
- Assist in creating a meticulously laid out business plan by using the DHS-6200 form, required for self-employment clients in the MFIP program to determine support services for self-employment activities that will result in exiting MFIP, some of which includes:

o Resume building,
o Brainstorming ideas specific to the business that will result in enough income to exit MFIP,
o Household and business budgeting,
o Monthly income projections prior to the start of the business,
o Compare potential earnings goals to income amount needed to stop the 60-month clock

*Perform other duties as instructed by the Supervisor.
*Must pass a criminal background check. As a condition of continued service, individual may be required to submit to periodic re-verification of these background checks. Spanish Required?: No Background Check Required?: Criminal

CLUES is Minnesota’s largest Latino-led nonprofit organization, founded in 1981. Today it serves over 10,000 Latinos, immigrants, and neighborhood-based clients throughout the Twin Cities area. With offices in Minneapolis and Saint Paul, its current mission is to "Improve the quality of life of Latinos in Minnesota". CLUES’ family-centric model of delivery focuses on empowering clients to live healthy lives and become economically self-sufficient. We realize our mission by eliminating barriers and providing access to resources and opportunities for clients through education, skill-building, training, and delivering behavioral health programs that lead to self-sufficiency and prosperity.
