ORGANIZATION: Maryland Wing Civil Air Patrol

The Maryland Wing of the Civil Air Patrol (U.S. Air Force Auxiliary) is seeking a knowledgeable volunteer with a background in aviation or aircraft maintenance to assist and advise Wing leadership in in managing the aircraft maintenance program for the Wing. The Maryland Wing manages a fleet of 11 single-engine aircraft (Cessna 172s, 182s, and a Gippsland GA-8 Airvan) that are located at airports throughout the state of Maryland.


Responsibilities:

  • Manage and direct all activities relating to aircraft maintenance.
  • Develop and implement aircraft maintenance plans, procedures, and evaluation and reporting standards.
  • Monitor the status of corporate aircraft for scheduled maintenance requirements.
  • Coordinate scheduled and unscheduled aircraft maintenance operations and requirements between the unit of aircraft assignment and local aircraft repair/service facilities.
  • Develop standard operating procedures for the maintenance of CAP aircraft
  • Develop necessary procedures that provide adequate guidance to Wing personnel and units
  • Become familiar with the organization and missions of the Civil Air Patrol.
  • Available to volunteer 10-20 hours a month and remain responsive via email throughout the week.


Qualifications:

  • Experience or education in aviation or aircraft maintenance
  • Familiarity with FAA Parts 1, 43, 61, 63 and 91, as well as FAA Advisory Circulars in the 61, 63, 91, and 97 series
  • Ability to quickly become familiar with Civil Air Patrol’s aircraft maintenance regulations and their requirements
  • Aged 18 or older.
  • Willingness to become a member of the Civil Air Patrol and comply with all internal regulations and procedures.
  • Ability to pass a background check.
  • Prior military experience is not necessary.

The official title of the person selected for this role will be " Chief of Aircraft Maintenance." This position reports to the Maryland Wing Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations.

Civil Air Patrol, the longtime all-volunteer U.S. Air Force auxiliary, is also a nonprofit organization with 60,000 members nationwide. In its Air Force Auxiliary role, Civil Air Patrol operates a fleet of 560 aircraft, performs about 90 percent of continental U.S. inland search and rescue missions as tasked by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center and is credited with saving an average of 82 lives annually. Civil Air Patrol’s unpaid professionals also perform homeland security, disaster relief and drug interdiction missions at the request of federal, state and local agencies. In addition, Civil Air Patrol plays a leading role in aerospace/STEM education, and its members serve as mentors to over 25,000 young people participating in Civil Air Patrol’s Cadet Programs. Nearly 1,500 members serve in Civil Air Patrol’s Maryland Wing. Last year, the Maryland Wing flew 13 search and rescue missions and a total of 32 missions for the State of Maryland, flying 2,245 hours in all mission categories, and was credited with four finds. Maryland youth aged 12 to 20 hone their leadership skills, study STEM topics, and build physical fitness as participants in the wing's cadet program.
