SoLa Impact is seeking volunteer camp counselors to join us for a new technology and entrepreneurship summer camp for low-income youth in South LA!

Middle school students will dive into the world of technology and design! Each week students will learn about a different fun subject, such as video game design, photoshop, stop-motion animation and much more! Join us for this one-of-a-kind immersive experience where we will utilize state-of-the-art technology such as gaming computers, Oculus virtual reality headsets and old-school arcade games to explore the world of tech!

SoLa Impact and its non-profit affiliate the SoLa I CAN Foundation are building South Los Angeles’s first Technology and Entrepreneurship Center to inspire the next generation of Black and Latinx tech workers, leaders and entrepreneurs to open in Fall 2021. On June 14, the center will open with a Summer soft-launch in a temporary in-person space in the heart of South Los Angeles. The camp is a five-week experience with each week having 15-25 middle school students and different themes as follows:

● Animation and creating a personally branded online portfolio (June 14-18) ● Create your own Video Game and Twitch or Youtube Channel (June 21-25) ● Mural and Street Art Design and Composition (June 28-July 2)
● Canvas and Poster Design (July 6-9)
● Graphic Design and Photoshop (July 12-18)

VOLUNTEER DETAILS:
As a Camp Counselor Volunteer, you will play a critical role in creating an empowering environment for our participants. From assisting with setup to encouraging students to express their creativity through their projects, you will be a part of the team that assures our participants leave the camp prepared and confident to explore new career opportunities that they would not otherwise have. In addition to assisting our participants, you will have the opportunity to work alongside mission driven individuals invested in elevating those helping us carry out our mission.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Work with SoLa I CAN team to assure daily programming is running smoothly
  • Familiarize yourself with the daily schedule and venue to guide participants

  • Encourage students to follow their schedule in a timely manner

  • Assist team with daily check in and check out procedures

  • Have an enthusiastic, team player attitude - no task is too small or too big

  • Assist with daily lunch distribution and clean up

  • Help camp instructors with their workshops as needed

  • Assure that COVID-19 safety protocols are being followed. Ex: participants

    wearing masks

  • Have fun, impact lives, and expand your network.
