This is an opportunity for a friendly outgoing volunteer. This volunteer will work as part of a team processing donations, serving customers, and keeping the shop tidy. If you have a passion for helping others and would like to support the mission of providing health and hospice care to those in need in our surrounding community this opportunity if for you! The New Canaan Thrift shop exists to help raise funds for patient care provided by Waveny Visiting Nurse and Hospice, a community healthcare services nonprofit committed to excellence and compassionate care.
We are seeking to build and grow our current team of fabulous and dedicated volunteers to help us cover regular shifts and also fill occasional shifts when there may be an unexpected absence or vacation.
As an organization we are committed to providing opportunities for those looking to explore a new career direction, or share their prior professional experience in a way that is fulfilling and also benefits others. High school age volunteers are welcome and we value the fresh perspective they bring.

Our community outreach includes school nursing, community health screenings, health education and wellness programs. Over the past 110 years Visiting Nurse and Hospice of Fairfield County has helped thousands of individuals, and their loved ones cope with terminal illness with comfort, peace and dignity. Joining forces with Waveny in 2021 VNHFC enabled the Waveny volunteer program to expand to offer opportunities at the New Canaan Thrift Shop and as part of the hospice and bereavement support volunteer team.

Our Volunteer program impacts the lives of our patients, residents AND volunteers providing enrichment, social connection, purpose and opportunities to learn and grow while making a difference!
As a nonprofit organization, we are a mission-based provider of healthcare, housing and support services to approximately 2,400 people every year. Waveny relies on our talented staff and hundreds of volunteers to deliver the highest quality of person-centered care every day. Our compassion is reflected in the smiles of the caregivers and those in our care, and our quality earns us industry accolades each year. The generosity of spirit we see in these connections mirrors the commitment of our donors to help us carry out this important work. Our Volunteer program provides a wide range of opportunities and flexible hours. We invest in our volunteer team providing training and mentoring to maximize the impact of the time and skills shared. We are grateful for our core team of volunteers, some of whom have been participating for decades, and we also welcome new volunteers and can incorporate what ever time you can offer.
