Nonprofit journalism about nonprofits!

Save to Favorites

In addition to the interns we have every semester who are college journalism students, Nonprofit Sector News seeks volunteers who have journalism experience, training and/or aptitude and interest to write news and feature stories about local, regional and national (but not solely international) nonprofit organizations of all types. Nonprofit Sector News has identified a couple hundred national nonprofit organizations that are active in every state (in many cases, practically every community) that it is monitoring and wants to write its own stories about. We seek to write national stories with local angles included or easily added, and local stories that are typical of what is going on nationally. Nonprofit Sector News does not currently do investigative journalism, but it will at some point.
Nonprofit Sector News is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt Pennsylvania nonprofit corporation currently based in Idaho.
It covers nonprofit organizations for the general public, and is NOT a trade publication for people who work for nonprofits (e.g. Nonprofit Sector News does NOT compete with Chronicle of Philanthropy, Nonprofit Times, Nonprofit Quarterly, Philanthropy News Daily, etc.). It also does not rate or rate nonprofit organizations like Candid or Charity Navigator or Charity Watch.
See our website at nonprofitsectornews.org and our social media accounts on Facebook and LinkedIn (those two accounts have identical content, so no need to see both).

Mission Statement

Building Communities by Reporting on US Nonprofits & Supporting Local News Media.

Nonprofit Sector News covers all U.S. nonprofits-charities to foundations, labor unions to trade groups-nationwide, with news, feature, and investigative journalism. Its audience is the general public, and other journalists. (Nonprofit Sector News is NOT a trade publication for employees, board members, and major donors to nonprofit organizations, unlike The Chronicle of Philanthropy, Nonprofit Times, Nonprofit Quarterly, NonprofitPRO, and others, although employees, board members and donors should find NSN content to be informative and interesting.)
Nonprofit Sector News distributes its original journalistic content only by email to everyone, including other journalists, other nonprofit news organizations, other nonprofit organizations, and the general public. By distributing high-quality, locally relevant articles about local, statewide, regional and national nonprofit organizations to other news media, it supports those local media, which have been hit hard by economic and technological forces, as well as informing those media’s readers, viewers, and listeners.Nonprofit Sector News also curates postings of news, feature, and investigative stories by other news organizations on its social media accounts, which announce or link to NSN’s own journalism as stories are completed and made public.Nonprofit Sector News, a Pennsylvania nonprofit corporation, has been granted tax-exempt status, under Section 501[c][3]), by the US Internal Revenue Service.
