Wilderwood is seeking an exceptional volunteer to serve as our Volunteer Coordinator. The position is volunteer (no salary); however, the successful applicant will be working with amazing participants, beautiful horses, delightful Poodles, a curious cat, and dedicated, enthusiastic people. This position requires approximately 3-5 hours per week with occasional longer hours (such as involvement in fundraising activities or Volunteer Days).
JOB DESCRIPTION
- Recruit, maintain roster, and coordinate training and schedules of volunteers in Wilderwood's five volunteer areas (Classroom/Teaching, Administrative, Equine, Facility, and Community Mentor)
- Assist in coordinating volunteers for fundraising and community events, such as Ask an Autistic, Volunteer Days events, and the Halloween and Horses Annual Fundraising Auction
- Contact area businesses and groups for donation support
- Coordinate receipt of donations, especially in relation to the Annual Fundraising Auction
- Coordinate and lead Volunteer Training sessions
- Record/document own volunteer hours
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Ability and desire to approach and communicate with local area businesses, community groups, and individuals
- Interest in learning about and advocating for autistic adults
- Excellent communication skills in both speaking and writing
- Willingness to professionally represent and promote Wilderwood's programs
- Organizational skills including filing, records management, and short report writing
- Minimum two years’ experience in fundraising or community volunteering
- Proven networking connections with the business, service, and/or professional communities of Albuquerque and Valencia County
- Knowledge and/or appreciation of horses
- Experience in the nonprofit sector or experience managing volunteers or employees
- Bachelor's degree (preferred)
