Camp Hero curriculum is designed to help children of active duty parents aged 6 through 14 find practical and fun ways to address the challenges of military life, introduce tools to help them succeed in school, and improve social and communication skills. Weekly themes are developed with the idea that each week will focus on a different area of learning and exploration.

We’re seeking three Youth Volunteers each week of the camp to support our paid camp staff. Volunteers must be at least 16 years old and they must commit to working at least two full weeks of camp during the summer (weeks need not be consecutive). They can work additional weeks if desired.

Volunteers will work full days, 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday-Friday. Volunteers are also required to attend a mandatory training Saturday, 6/5/2021, 8:30am - 2:30pm.

Camp HERO begins on 16 JUN 2021 and ends on 27 AUG 2021.

General duties: Teen volunteers are an important part of our camp team and have a great time while learning responsibility, teamwork, and the satisfaction of a job well done all under the guidance of dedicated program leads & coordinators. Teen volunteers will assist with camp rotations in S.T.E.M., arts & crafts, sports, team-building, leadership and more. Volunteers will also help with organization, restocking and clean-up of camp areas. Other duties as assigned.

The Armed Services YMCA San Diego is a certifying organization for the President's Volunteer Service Award, and 100 hours of service will earn the Bronze level award for a teen/young adult. That can look pretty nice on a college application.

We will comply with all COVID-19 requirements in effect at the time of volunteering.
