ORGANIZATION: Uhuru Furniture & Collectibles


Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Uhuru Furniture. We are a non profit whose goal is to help the black community gain economic independence. This in person position requires 5 - 10 hrs/week.

The volunteer will help organize and report on our NZO furniture painting workshops! NZO is a Kikongo word that means home and it is the name of our line of hand-painted and reupholstered furniture. We are incorporating traditional African designs and fabrics into furniture to upcycle it and to tie it to our mission which is all about African community self-determination!

Description

Uhuru Furniture and Collectibles is a non-profit store that is a fundraiser for black community empowerment programs of APEDF. We receive a truck load of donated furniture and household items every day. This is a lively, popular Grand Lake area store staffed mostly by volunteers. When you volunteer at Uhuru Furniture, you not only contribute to the success of the store, you become part of a larger movement for peace through social justice. People shop at Uhuru Furniture for low priced, top quality items and to support crucial programs for social justice for African people.
