Colorado Railroad Museum is expanding our outdoor, socially distanced, and safe educational programs this summer with "Touring The Rails". This program will bring the overarching themes of our museum and its current exhibits to life by focusing on 4 key locations in the museum. Volunteers get to explore an informal educational setting with visitors about the concepts of:

  • Moving the Message - Communication and the railroads part in developing the telegraph, carrying the mail, and developing the telephone.
  • Working the Railroad- Exploration of the different jobs people did working for the railway.
  • Locomotion and Leverage - The nuts and bolts of how things work from the turntable to the different types of locomotives and cars.
  • Building the American Dream - How railroads enabled a mass movement of people and goods to Colorado as part of Westward Expansion. The changes this made to American life, and how those changes continue to affect us today.

This program requires training scheduled for Saturday, May 8th, 2021 from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. If you can't make that training date, don't worry. We will happily work one-on-one with you and have you shadow our program at a later date.
