The Senior Program at BHNC focuses on meeting the needs of active seniors by providing fun activities, daily congregate lunches, an on-site food pantry, and linkages to social services.
Volunteers will help with the set-up, distribution of food, and post-food pantry clean up tasks. Volunteers with cars who can commit at least one hour of their time every other week will deliver bagged groceries to some of our homebound participants. Volunteers can also assist with BINGO games and other recreation activities; serving lunch during our congregate meal time, the front desk, and with an occasional field trip in San Francisco.

Mission Statement
Bernal Heights Neighborhood Center (BHNC) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization working to preserve and enhance the ethnic, cultural, and economic diversity of Bernal Heights, the Excelsior, and surrounding neighborhoods. We promote action to build a just and equitable community for all. BHNC focuses on the needs of people with low and moderate incomes.
Description
To achieve our mission, we develop and preserve affordable housing throughout San Francisco. We provide linguistically and culturally responsive services to our community’s most vulnerable adults, seniors, youth, and their families. We develop leaders. By empowering tenants, clients, residents, and allies to achieve goals that address community needs, we create vibrant, engaged neighborhoods with equitable access to city resources.
BHNC also works with our affiliate organization, the Bernal Heights Housing Corporation (BHHC), to further our mission by developing and preserving stable and affordable homes. Our housing programs are designed to support adults with low incomes and their children, including formerly homeless individuals and those with special needs due to mental health issues, HIV/AIDS, or substance abuse problems.
