ORGANIZATION: Family Services of the Desert, Inc, dba Food Now

Looking to make a difference in the community? Looking for a rewarding and satisfying opportunity to give back? Join the Food Now Team. We provide weekly distributions of healthy and nutritious food for 500 to 600 struggling families every week. We have positions available for all tasks required to operate a food pantry. Task include receiving, sorting, packaging, distributing, record keeping, cleaning among others. The work is strenuous and requires volunteers to stand for prolonged periods. Some positions but not all require boxes of medium weight (20 pounds). Four days are available. Apply for 1 or all.

  • morning / 07:00 AM to 11:45 AM
    Receiving Monday and Tuesday. Distribution Wednesday and Thursday

Food Now strives to improve the quality of life for residents in western Coachella Valley by providing food assistance, community outreach and support services which strengthen families and build healthy communities.

Description

Food Now provides supplemental food assistance and other support services for in-need families and individuals in and around Desert Hot Springs. The services we provide include:
Food Assistance: A healthy diet is a critical component to achieve and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Food Now provides a safe and secure source of healthy food for those who are economically disadvantaged.
Home Deliveries : Food Now provides home deliveries of weekly supplemental food for disabled veterans and others who are housebound due to a medical necessity.
Children’s Backpack Feeding Program: The Food Now Children’s Backpack Feeding Program is a cooperative between Food Now and the Palm Springs Unified School District and provides selected chronically hungry children with additional nutritional support on weekends.
Homeless Needs Program: Food Now provides homeless clients with a daily distribution of special ready to eat food packages which require no heating or refrigeration. Personal hygiene items are distributed as needed.
Companion Animal Feeding Program: Food Now provides weekly cat and dog food assistance for pet owners.

  • Must be at least 16
  • Volunteer can work from 1 to 4 days, but please, no split shifts. If you commit to a day, please come in for the full day (7am till noon)
  • Masks are still required till Covid mandate is relaxed.
