Conversations to Remember is a 501C3 charity that matches students with residents in senior communities (including those with dementia) for weekly virtual visits. Our mission is to help relieve the loneliness that these senior citizens experience and bring a smile to each resident's face. We currently have hundreds of trained student volunteers from over 40 states, and are working with senior communities from coast to coast.

Our program began during Covid, when the residents in long term care communities were not allowed visitors, and most were isolated in their rooms. The epidemic of loneliness among senior citizens was elevated during this isolation, but has always existed even before the Covid lockdowns. We strive to relieve some of this loneliness and feelings of isolation. We want the senior citizens we serve to recognize that they are valuable members of our community!

We need adult volunteers to help in various ways:

  • social media
  • public relations
  • writing blog posts
  • assistance contacting communities to have them join our program
  • creating fundraising campaigns
  • helping to identify funding sources
  • grant writing

All volunteering is done virtually. We are looking for adults in the United States, who want to volunteer their time to assist with our mission to help senior citizens. This opportunity is good for people who are retired, stay at home parents, or anyone with even a few free hours a week.

If you have related experience, that is great, but may not be necessary.

About Conversations To Remember

Location:

81 Windsor Drive, Pine Brook, NJ 07058, US

Mission Statement

Connecting high school and college students with residents in assisted living communities to combat the epidemic of loneliness. Putting a smile on the faces of seniors, including those experiencing cognitive decline, creating a bridge between seniors and youth.

Description

High School & College Students: Once a week 2 or 3 students engage in a video call with a senior citizen who is in an assisted living facility. Most of the residents that we are working with have some form of cognitive decline. The calls last about an hour, and we have 2 or 3 students doing it together. During the virtual visit, students don't have to be physically together, they can each be on their own device.
