Help to improve MMCC Community Learning Garden! MMCC is partnering with GrowNYC & Montefiore Hospital to help maintain the outdoor garden of the community so we can inspire and delight visitors with quality plants in a well-designed garden.
Day & Time Commitment:
Thursdays
11:00am - 1:00pm
Responsibilities:
Help design and install new plantings in the garden
Remove non-native, invasive, or harmful plants or weeds as they appear
Help to water plants as needed
Initial Impact:
Help to improve and maintain the MMCC Community Learning Garden.
Sustained Outcomes:
Working alongside community members to improve the community learning garden, helping to make our community greener.
Qualifications:
- Ability to kneel, crawl, bend, and lift 4+ pound
Mature, dependable, and responsible
- Previous experience or an interest in gardening welcomed
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
A friendly and approachable manner with an ability to work on a team
- Volunteers are requested to present themselves in a manner of dress and footwear appropriate to their role - weatherproof clothing and tough footwear are recommended
Required Training:
All volunteers must participate in an interview, and orientation session.

Description
Our story begins in 1942 when a few MMCC programs were run from a storefront on Gun Hill Road, basements on Wayne Avenue, and rented rooms in a local school. In 1958, the main building was built and the programs were expanded to meet the needs of the community annually serving 35,000 Bronx and Manhattan individuals and families of all ages.
