ORGANIZATION: American Youth Literacy Foundation

Have you ever wanted to do something AMAZING to change the world but didn't know where to start?

Here is an opportunity to help underprivileged children, to help under-served children, to help ALL children displaced from school due to COVID-19, and even to help many adults who can't read.

Join our web store team!

If you are interested in advertising, marketing, promotion, retail, merchandising, web store, online store, design, graphic design, fashion, business, entrepreneur, entrepreneurship, social media, sales or business development, we are looking for three, very special people, who have the skills, expertise, experience, passion, and time to be part of something amazing that is about to fundamentally change the lives of millions of children. Right now, millions of children have no hope; but soon, they will have the opportunity to learn how to read, which, in turn, will open a window to education and to a world of potential for them that, not only, has never been opened before, but that has never even been seriously contemplated as a potential reality.

What we are talking about is adaptive learning, gamified smartphone app, called FUNetix, that can literally, teach a child how to read, in the comfort of their home, in an average of just 12 hours of total use time!

We are the American Youth Literacy Foundation, and we have been teaching children how to read for more than 17 years! We have been developing this app for about five years, and in January of this year we launched the FUNetix 12 Hour Reading App in the App Store and Google Play to help save millions of children from a lifetime of illiteracy!

Now we are building a global brand and an ecosystem to deliver the app to the more than 20 million children in the United States who can't read, even though they are in school, and the millions more adolescents and young adults who have dropped out of school because they can't read.

We are looking for intelligent, creative, enthusiastic, cheerful, optimistic individuals with experience in both digital and print media, graphic design, Adobe Creative Suite, business and entrepreneurship, promotion, social media, sales, business development, retail, merchandising advertising and online sales.

Recently we launched the FUNetix Store (www.shop4literacy, www.zazzle.com/store/funetix) as a synergistic part of our larger ecosystem designed to bring the FUNetix brand to the world and to spread awareness about the app. In addition, we have relaunched the #Art4LiteracyProject, which brings in artwork from high school, middle school and elementary school students from around the country to help us create beautiful logo merchandise to sell in our store. There is no limit to the amount of artwork that we can bring in and there is no limit to the amount of merchandise we can create and sell; but we need designers and creative merchandisers like you to come up with creative ideas, do the design and layout, and post them in our store.

Already, there are millions of children who are struggling to learn how to read. Already, there are millions more who have given up on reading and are destined to go through life either completely illiterate, or with semi-literate skills at best. And now with the displacement of tens of millions of children from school, for an indeterminate amount of time, the loss of reading capacity of the next generation presents a new, crisis moment in American education and a very real threat to the future success of millions of young students.

The curriculum that our app is based on is a patented reading decoding system, and is so effective at teaching children how to read, that it usually only takes 4 hours for them to reach a 1st grade level, and another 8 hours (12 hours total) to reach a 2nd grade reading level. Compare this to many of our students who have been in the public school system for 6 years and still can't spell the word "the." Compare this to millions of students who have dropped out of school, primarily because they can't read (more than 10 million per decade).

Our organization is an 12 year old, nationwide, charitable 501 c 3 non-profit. We started out as a tutoring program and we still tutor. But our focus has always been on finding a scaleable solution to the literacy crisis in America.

We are looking for 3 very special people who have everything we mentioned above, including: passion, expertise and time to join our already amazing team of more than 50 people, working virtually and collaboratively nationwide, to help us continue to optimize our brand and our product selection as provide support to our comms, community outreach, web and other teams.

If you wish to be considered for this opportunity to be a retail/merchandising/design/promotion/web store intern please send us a cover letter and resume to hr@YouthLit.org.

The ideal candidate:

  • is Able to work in a fast paced environment
  • is A great communicator and collaborator
  • has A good eye for fashion, color theory, composition, visual design, or
  • has Experience working with web stores, promotion and merchandising, and
  • pays Attention to detail, and
  • Cares about education and children's literacy

Thank you! We hope this opportunity finds you at the right place and the right time in your career to make a difference and an impact, in an amazing way, for millions of children who are waiting for someone, or some thing, to lead them out of a life of impoverishment, to help them get through this COVID-19 setback, and help them surge into a future of unlimited possibility and potential.

Description

FUNetix is a patented, science-based, and incredibly simplified way of teaching reading to children that's available to parents and children anywhere in the United States and anywhere in the world. The FUNetix 12 hours Reading App is available in the App Store, Google Play store and Amazon App store.

FUNetix is 19-years-new, but in some ways, it is more than 2,000 years old.

Indeed, the patented FUNetix Reading Decoding System is rooted in an ancient methodology that shows readers how to see the hidden sounds in every word.

FUNetix earned its patent by borrowing the time-tested method called "diacritics" (which was developed more than 2,000 years ago by the Greeks, and adopted more than 1,000 years ago by the Hebrew and Arabic languages, to teach ALL children how to read those languages), and uniquely, completely and systematically applying it to English in a child-friendly and simple way.

FUNetix teaches children how to "map" or "marry" all 44 sounds of the English language to the letters and letter combinations that make up English words. This mapping (made easy by diacritics) takes all of the guesswork out of "sounding out" words.
