Does your company have a few hours to help feed the Summit Country community?

We're looking for businesses to work with that could send 10-15 employees to volunteer at our monthly "Red Shield" program. It's simple. Just come on out and we'll show you what to do! It's also a great photo op for your company. :)

Red Shield is the Salvation Army's community drive through food pantry serving hundreds of people in a very short time.

Volunteers help with the following:

- prepare/organize the food (bagging canned goods, organizing bread, packing boxes ...)
- load up carts. They get the carts ready to be taken out to the cars.
- pack the cars with food
- break down boxes and clean up at the end of the day

We're looking for organizations and businesses who will co-sponsor just one month a year. While we do have our core volunteers with the Salvation Army having an additional 10-15 more willing volunteers a month will help us keep the lines of cars moving even smoother.

The Red Shield program runs the 2nd Wednesday of every month between 8:30 and noon.

If your organization would like to partner with the Salvation Army or individually you'd like to join us please contact John Kasler at the Salvation Army through this site or text/call at 330.958.2906 for more information.

Description

With three corps and seven service units, The Salvation Army of Summit County offers a wide variety of programs to persons in need across the county. Homeless men and women with children can stay in one of the only family shelters while they look for affordable living accommodations. With free groceries and hot meals, families and individuals can stay well nourished. Utility assistance is on hand to people who have a disconnection notice on their gas or electric. At the Child Development Center, preschool children learn basic skills necessary to enter and excel in kindergarten. The Learning Center, an academic after school program provides homework help as well as time for creative outlets. Children and youth participate in character building programs fostered through an array of recreational activities, music and spiritual guidance. Seasonal giving programs allow low income families to enjoy and celebrate the holidays with donated gifts and food. More than twenty thousand individuals are served through our centers in Summit County.
