What Is The HelpLine? The NAMI Pomona Valley HelpLine is a free service that provides information, referrals and support to people living with a mental health condition, family members and caregivers, mental health providers, and the public. What Volunteers Do... A well-trained and knowledgeable team of volunteers respond to calls and email inquiries. Staff members and volunteers have experience living with a mental health condition or providing care and support to a family member with a condition, and therefore, better able understand and empathize. HelpLine interns, psychology, social work and counseling students, talk to callers and apply what they’ve learned to real life situations. Volunteers will need to devote at least one day a month to helping answer calls. Volunteers will need to complete a short training.

    Shifts are spread out among volunteers.

Description

NAMI Pomona Valley works collaboratively with Tri-City Mental Health Center and other community organizations. Our purpose is to participate in a community-wide "continuity of care" and to make known our availability to families and individuals within the Pomona Valley and beyond. We provide speakers, disseminate literature, and join in system-wide planning for furthering mental health insight and action and for the breaking of stigma. Outreach programs, as demonstrated by the following, are essential to our educational mission.

  • Must be at least 18
  • Orientation or Training
  • At least one day a month, Preferably for 12 months.
  • Prefer persons who are retired or can commit to our helpline long term. Knowledge of Southern California preferred. Optional: Spanish speaker
