IEEE is a renowned engineering organization that is known for setting technical standards. Yet as a nonprofit organization, we have a mission to help humanity. As part of a broader effort to set standards for Future Networks, we are keen to make networks work for the portion of humanity that does not have access to the internet or does not use it. The importance of bridging the digital divide has never been greater; under COVID, it has meant that more people without access are suffering from the lack of livelihood, to the lack of education.

IEEE is therefore organizing a "connect the unconnected" competition to promote innovation and reward those who have unique solutions to address the problem. Our intention is to launch a competition in June, and a summit to provide awards in October/November.

We have excellent engineers on staff and as volunteers supporting this initiative. What we lack is someone on the communications/publicity side who can help us get the word out about this effort. We are looking for advice on how to do this effectively as well as someone who can put this in motion.

About IEEE Future Networks Initiative

Location:

445 Hoes Lane, Piscataway, NJ 08854, US

Mission Statement

IEEE Future Networks will help pave a clear path through development and deployment of 5G and the great potential it enables, while envisioning the landscape of connectivity and applications beyond 5G. Recognizing that networking is larger than a single technology, standard, organization, or region, IEEE Future Networks is gathering the world’s researchers, scientists, engineers, and policymakers from industry, academia, and governments to solve the challenges and reveal the opportunities associated with current and future networks. IEEE Future Networks advocates for a connected world without a digital divide, and where future network generations have connectivity for all ingrained as a standard rather than pursued as an afterthought.

Description

IEEE Future Networks is an initiative within IEEE, the world’s largest technical professional association with over 400,000 members in more than 160 countries dedicated to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity. IEEE members inspire a global community to innovate for a better tomorrow through highly cited publications, conferences, technology standards, and professional and educational activities. IEEE is the trusted "voice" for engineering, computing, and technology information around the globe.
