Meals from the Market: Volunteer 11 AM - 1 PM

Calling all volunteers who love being outdoors, enjoy interacting with people, and have a passion for fighting food insecurity in the Greater Des Moines metro! DMARC is recruiting individuals and groups to assist with the Meals from the Market program during the 2022 Downtown Farmer's Market!

  • Volunteers can sign up for zone 1, zone 2, and zone 3. Zones are sectioned areas throughout the market to make it easy for volunteers and staff to connect with vendors and transport donated items.
  • Collecting donated produce in carts, helping a DMARC staff person load donations into a truck, and helping to unload donations at the DMARC warehouse (1435 Mulberry Street in downtown Des Moines)
  • Helping to put materials/supplies back in the totes and break down tables and stools at the MFTM booth

All volunteers please arrive a few minutes before your shift and meet at the DMARC Tent. Look for DMARC Staff members for further instructions. (Detailed information and a map of the market will be provided in an email after signing up)

You will be provided with instructions and ongoing guidance from a DMARC warehouse staff person and Team caption for the duration of your shift.

About Des Moines Area Religious Council

100 Army Post Road, Des Moines, IA 50315, US

Mission Statement

Working to meet basic human needs within the greater Des Moines Community

The Des Moines Area Religious Council (DMARC) is a nonprofit organization with interfaith roots, whose mission is to meet basic human needs in the greater Des Moines community. The DMARC Food Pantry Network consists of 14 partner pantry sites, multiple Mobile Food Pantry locations, two food warehouses, and numerous community partners. The DMARC Food Pantry Network is committed to providing healthy food options and fresh produce to the people it assists. Once per calendar month, people can select a three-day supply of food from any one of its Food Pantry Network partner pantries, and AnyTime Items are available whenever a pantry is open. Last year, DMARC assisted 58,707 unique individuals living with food insecurity in Greater Des Moines.

DMARC could never do the work of feeding so many people without the partnership of many, diverse faith communities. Nearly 200 faith communities from across the religious spectrum support DMARC with cash support, donations of food, and service. Because we can do so much more together than we can on our own, DMARC has a commitment to helping our faith communities learn about one another and build relationships.
