This is a wonderful volunteer opportunity for someone looking to make a difference in the life of a senior.

ConnectingWithU is a free, telephone reassurance service that provides emotional support for Seniors in Broward County, offering an individualized, emotionally safe space for Seniors to express their feelings and concerns while staying interconnected to others from the comfort of their own home.

Studies show that Seniors disconnected from regular human interaction can feel isolated, depressed, require increased medical services or even potential institutional placement. A caring call from a ConnectingWithU Phone Pal can help prevent these feelings or results and make a positive change in the lives of those involved in this special program.

Our CWU Phone Pal volunteers reach out by phone regularly to these seniors to offer a friendly check-in and an opportunity to feel connected to the community beyond their front door.

The Area Agency on Aging of Broward County plans, develops, coordinates and evaluates programs, funds services, and is the prime advocate for Broward County residents 60 years of age or older.

Description

The Area Agency on Aging of Broward County exists to improve the quality of life for all seniors living in Broward County. We do this by collaborating with other organizations and providing exceptional, compassionate leadership in a broad array of programs dedicated to allowing those we serve to continue to live life to their fullest potential.
The Area Agency on Aging of Broward County (AAA) plans, develops, coordinates, and evaluates programs; funds services; and is the prime advocate for residents of Broward County, Florida, 60 years of age or older. The AAA also operates the Aging and Disability Resource Center which is your one-stop source of information regarding services in Broward County, Florida, for seniors, persons with disabilities, ages 18 and over, their families, and caregivers.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Background Check
  • Must be at least 18
  • Orientation or Training
  • Call log case loads vary from volunteer-to-volunteer but generally include 7-10 Seniors. Clients only need to be called once a week at minimum, though there are some exceptions.
  • Live in Broward, Miami-Dade or Palm Beach County. Have access to a phone, computer and internet. Bilingual in Spanish, Haitian Creole, or Portuguese is a plus, but not mandatory!
