ORGANIZATION: World Infectious Disease Monitoring Organization (WoIDMo)

  • 53 people are interested

The WoIDMo is running a surveillance system to detect infectious disease outbreaks from both official non-official sources. This is in order to construct a better view of the landscape of infectious diseases globally and how they affect people. It is currently the most complete publicly accessible database of infectious disease outbreaks and an invaluable resource for researchers and CDCs..

Every day we are detecting about 15 events that indicate an infectious disease outbreak and these events need to be curated manually. We are specifically looking for volunteers (students, university level) who have a background in public health, biology, epidemiology, medicine or otherwise related to infectious diseases. Being able to write short summaries of texts in English is a requirement, as is being meticulous.

Every volunteer will be assigned a specific day of the week. It takes one to two hours to work through the list of events.

Before applying, please watch this video in its entirety.

Apply only after having watched the video. We are specifically looking for people who have an interest in doing this long term.

After you have been evaluated, you will be invited to join Microsoft Teams, where you can communicate with other volunteers to arrange optimal schedules and receive assistance with issues related to this work.

Participating volunteers will be able to download a certificate, proving their contributions to this project.

Mission Statement

The World Infectious Disease Monitoring Organization (WoIDMo) is a non-profit organization, established in 2020, that brings together a network of individuals from around the world. Our mission is to raise awareness of the importance of monitoring infectious diseases globally and how they affect us. One of the important aspects of our foundation is to function as an early warning system for emerging diseases. We also support development of better diagnostics and enable fast delivery of diagnostics where needed, especially where resource-limited countries are involved. For this we work together with other NGO’s that have boots on the ground. To further our understanding of infectious diseases and how to deal with them, we aim to support researchers working on projects relevant to our goals.

Description

We are a non-political organization who's aim is to raise awareness and make a difference in ways that are as practical as possible. We can use support in multiple area's like copywriting, social media, marketing, webdesign and web app programming.
