Position Title : User Experience (UX) Copywriter.

About DemocracyLab

DemocracyLab helps tech for good projects launch innovative solutions by connecting skilled volunteers to projects that need them. Volunteers are able to use their experiences to build their resumes and portfolios, grow their network, and advance their careers. We are open to projects from individuals, community organizations, non-profits, social purpose companies and government agencies. Our platform helps volunteers give back and develop new skills, while accelerating the evolution of new technologies that empower citizens and help institutions become more accessible, accountable, and efficient. DemocracyLab is optimizing the connection between tech-centric volunteers and tech-for-good projects.

About the Role

We are looking for a UX Copywriter who can write copy using simple, succinct, and engaging language. Our UX Copywriter will help define best practices, create language guidelines, and track the performance of copy to improve our user experience. You’ll report to the Design Team Lead for DemocracyLab, and be part of a highly collaborative team that is dedicated to developing better experiences for product users.


Key Responsibilities :


  • Analyze user experience research performed by Democracy Lab and use insights and feedback to iterate and improve copy during the design process
  • Communicate complex product features and benefits in clear language
  • Track how copy is performing across projects to optimize content
  • Contribute to DemocracyLab’s copywriting resources and tools

Desired Skills and Experience :

  • Relevant training and/or (1-2 years) experience in UX copywriting. We will request to review the applicant’s design portfolio.
  • You’re not afraid to speak your mind and feel comfortable in an honest, transparent, diverse and collaborative culture
  • A desire to move the tech for good cause forward

Length of Appointment : We request that a volunteer be able to commit a minimum of 3 months to this position.

Time Commitment : We request that a volunteer be willing to commit a minimum of 5 hours per week to this position.

Reports To : Chris Grant, Design Team Lead for DemocracyLab.

Communication: DemocracyLab uses Slack as its primary form of communication. Files will be shared using Google Drive.
