National Volunteer Week 2021 Is Here!
Celebrate with us as we highlight #ArtAsActivism!
South Coast Botanic Garden Foundation
South Coast Botanic Garden seeks enthusiastic individuals to support the organization’s mission and
to expand the organization’s network of volunteers, members and guests.
Our Mission: To serve the community by providing a unique horticultural and wildlife habitat
experience, and to represent a model of excellence for land reclamation and sustainability.
SOAR: SOAR will feature tropical butterflies in our newly built pavilion. An additional ticket purchase
is required to enter the pavilion but the experience begins outside with our new garden area featuring
a portion of our spring superbloom, butterfly-attracting flowers, and other pollinators. Once inside,
visitors will have the opportunity to see the butterflies in every stage of the life cycle, watch them in
their natural habitat, and, if you’re lucky, have a personal encounter with one!
SOAR Guides provide visitors with an enthusiastic, interactive learning experience and help with
the core operational activities of SOAR (Butterfly Pavilion and surrounding area).
Volunteers will participate in training to learn about butterfly species and their importance to the
environment, as well as how to interact with visitors from all over the world. Volunteers ensure
everyone’s safety in the pavilion (including the butterflies!), and encourage visitors to stop by the
emergence chamber outside the pavilion to see butterflies emerge from their chrysalides.
No additional volunteer opportunities at this time.

The mission of South Coast Botanic Garden (SCBG) is to serve the community by providing a unique horticultural and wildlife habitat experience, and to represent a model of excellence for land reclamation and sustainability. The South Coast Botanic Garden delivers education, programs, and events offering layered experiences of surprise, adventure, beauty, and serenity through color, texture, sound, and light.
The South Coast Botanic Garden Foundation is the philanthropic organization that supports the Garden by raising money through co-sponsoring flower shows, and holding events like car shows, and concerts. We also support the Garden by providing volunteers who work in the garden, tending the Garden as well as raising plants for sale. We operate a Gift Shop and a Craft Workshop volunteer group who make handmade items to sell in the Gift Shop. Volunteer groups also include docents who conduct tours for school children throughout the year. Docent training begins in September.
We'll work with your schedule.
