YouthBuild Public Charter School (YBPCS) is an alternative high school for young people seeking to transform their lives by re-engaging in their education in a non-traditional school environment.

YBPCS prepares students for postsecondary education and the workplace by offering, in English and Spanish, academic, vocational and workforce development programs. YBPCS believes that service to the community is an essential part of the transformative process. Therefore, students serve their community through volunteer projects and by creating housing for low-income residents in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. We are starting our school year of 2020-2021 and currently recruiting for volunteers to help our students progress academically and professionally.

Virtual Career Coach

Time Commitment: Schedules vary by coach availability and structure of support (1-2 hour weekly or monthly sessions)

Opportunity: Help our students acquire jobs, get into vocational programs, and attend college! Use your job skills to mentor the next generation in preparing for college and career by searching for best fit jobs and schools, writing resumes, cover letters and applications, and navigating the interview process. The YBPCS’ Transitions department will work closely with Career Coaches, assisting with scheduling times with students, planning activities, and evaluating impact. All career coaches must have a high school degree or GED and at least 1-2 years of professional experience.

  • All volunteers must attend a virtual volunteer orientation in April
  • Career coaching sessions will start after orientation
  • All sessions will be virtual on Zoom
  • Volunteers must complete a background check before beginning service with the school
  • A brief interview will be conducted to gather more information of interest and suitability
