ORGANIZATION: Beacon Hospice

Hospice volunteers provide vital companionship to a patient, enriching their quality of life by simply being present. They sit with patients and read to them, listen to their stories, play music or sing, pray, knit, play cards, or simply be present. The need for companionship seems greater than ever, as we all emerge from so many months not being able to see and touch those we love most.

Currently, volunteers may visit patients living at home and in some nursing facilities. Each nursing facility determines its own visitation policy, and those have been changing frequently over the last few months. About 2/3 of Beacon Hospice patients live in nursing homes, and the other 1/3 live at home, usually with a relative.

Beacon Hospice is seeking volunteers to sit with patients, and sometimes family members, to create rapport and support them during this difficult time. Some specific areas we are looking for are music and military experience, though all are welcome to apply.
