Disaster duty officers are a lifeline to temporary assistance during a disaster. Volunteer Duty Officers are responsible for dispatching Red Cross volunteers to meet with families impacted by home fires and other disasters so they can provide temporary relief. Must have good phone, computer skills and internet.

Leadership

  1. May determine if Red Cross action is required; may decide if Red Cross will respond.
  2. Uses event triggers such as size, scope, and type of the event to direct the response.
  3. Works with on-scene leadership to support the response and provide technical guidance.
  4. Support and trains new responders.

Functional

  1. Dispatch team members and monitor the response to ensure appropriate resources are made available.
  2. Documents incoming disaster notification and creates & verifies events in an internal system, when applicable.
  3. May be required to monitor activity across multiple responses.
  4. Notify staff of significant events, and contribute to an report, when appropriate.
  5. Attends regularly scheduled team meetings as required by supervisor.
