Shelter Transport and Animal Rescue Team (START Rescue)
START Rescue Saves Animal's Lives:
(1) By organizing huge rescue transport missions, we rescue up to 135 animals each month, from high-kill shelters and off the streets in Mexico. We then transport them our START-SAFE, no-kill, rescue organization partners in the Pacific North West where they find loving homes.
(2) We hold large no-cost spay/neuter events in underserved neighborhoods in California.
(3) We take on small scale rescue missions locally, and in some cases Mexico. These animals are often discovered living in extraordinarily dire situations, where they are suffering from neglect and/or abuse, abandoned, broken or otherwise injured, and/or are living on the streets.
We are part of a collaborative, positive, hard working, rescue community all up the West Coast.
ABOUT THE ROLE:
We are looking for 1-2 volunteers who can drive our vehicle (a cargo van), transporting rescued animals on the second Wednesday of some months (random), help animal rescuers with the animals as needed, care for animals along the way as needed, be a courteous, and helpful team member. Communication with the team is crucial. We will be here to help you!
Day in the life of a volunteer - Pick up the van from a home in Sellwood, OR (parking your car there). Meet a group of animal rescuers in Tualatin, OR (15 minutes south of Portland) 8am - 10am. Let local animal rescuers load the animals rescued from high-kill areas near Los Angeles, onto our local vehicle (a van), and help as needed. Taking and sharing photos for use on social media. Drive the animals for 2-6 hours, to another location, where another group of rescuers will meet you to take the animals in. Then drive back and leave the van back in Sellwood! Animals are typically cats and dogs, kittens and puppies.
SAFELY DRIVING is CRUCIAL. We require a GPS tracker, a 100% CLEAN driving record. We do check. We cannot afford to insure non-clean record drivers.
If you are interested and have: * A CLEAN DRIVING RECORD * ABSOLUTELY MUST LOVE ANIMALS AND provide evidence of that :) * Able to send and receive text messages and emails, AND be ok with doing this off and on as needed in order to coordinate. * Have a smart phone * Able to take photos with your phone and share them. * Agreeable to a GPS tracker app (360) put on your phone JUST during trips. * Be willing to do what it takes to get the animals to safety. * Be VERY reliable. Animals that are not rescued, will face euthanasia. This is life saving work!
If you are interested in this volunteer position, please respond by email and let us know:
1. Why you are interested in the position. 2. Why you think you would be a good fit. 3. What is your biggest concern? 4. Your phone number.
If you are able to follow these instructions above with care, then we would love to chat!
Thank you for your interest in rescuing animals with S.T.A.R.T. Rescue.
No additional volunteer opportunities at this time.
