Mission Statement

Our mission is to preserve, share, and advance the horticultural and artistic legacy of John Fairey. We are inspired by: • A garden that is filled with associations between plants, design, art, architecture, places, and people. • A dynamic garden where nature, plants, and design are ever evolving.

Description

EXPERIENCE AN EXTRAORDINARY GARDEN Established by John Fairey in 1971, The John Fairey Garden (formerly Peckerwood Garden) is an extraordinary preservation garden on 39 acres near Hempstead, Texas
THE GARDEN Has been widely acclaimed for the originality of its design, the breadth of its collections, and its education and conservation programs. The garden features an extraordinary variety of plants that are well-suited to the climate of central Texas and the Texas gulf coast, including agaves, magnolias, oaks, and many other species collected by John and his colleagues during their numerous plant expeditions in Mexico. The garden features more than 3,000 plants (1000 unique taxa) from Mexico, Asia, and the United States.
THE NURSERY A large part of our mission is to make uncommon and distinctive plants available for sale to our guests and other botanical gardens. Our sale plants are propagated from the garden and from plants collected around the world.
