Sacramento Braille Transcribers, Inc. is a non-profit organization, which is passionate about producing high quality, affordable braille. Sacramento Braille Transcribers, Inc. (SBT) transcribes and produces a wide variety of projects into braille, from textbooks to menus, from newsletters to picture books for the blind.

SBT has been around for the past 63 years, but we are in an exciting phase of going digital: we recently switched to a paperless office, we now use cloud-based software and file storage, and we are in the process of creating our first website.

Even though we’ve been around for decades, we have the zest of a start-up, because we are renovating how we do business. We are looking for an Administrative Assistant who loves creating spreadsheets for tracking inventory and enjoys helping prospective customers on the phone and through email.

  • Valid driver’s license, insurance, and reliable transportation
  • Exceptional ability to organize paperwork and files
  • Comfortable using Google products (such as Google Drive, Calendar, and Gmail)
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to prioritize, and follow through with minimal direction
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

We are looking for a volunteer Administrative Assistant who lives in the Sacramento area. Knowledge of braille is not required, but we would love for you to have an interest in learning about the braille industry.

Virtual Tasks:

  • Reply promptly to all emails and voicemails and forward messages to pertinent individuals.
  • Schedule appointments and meetings.
  • Organize and maintain SBT’s Google Drive and Google Calendar.
  • Type reports, memos, letters and other documents.
  • Perform administrative duties as needed including filing, copying, sorting, mailing, etc..
  • Order office supplies and research new deals and suppliers.
  • Update and maintain office policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a contact list of vendors and customers.
  • Help screen and onboard volunteers.
  • Provide Board of Directors support and meeting preparations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

In-person Tasks to be Performed at the Sacramento Based Office:

  • Weekly check the mail at the office and at the PO Box. Receive, sort, and forward incoming mail.
  • Dust, vacuum and empty the trash at the office as needed.

Deadline to apply is Friday, April 16, 2021. To apply, please email your resume and three professional references to Elizabeth Symington at sbt@sacbraille.com . Zoom interviews will take place April 19-30.
