BOARD OF DIRECTORS
The SOAR Family is very excited to announce our growth! We are now actively looking for a passionate individual interested in becoming a SOAR Board Member. If you are devoted to uplifting youth and empowering them to be the best versions of themselves, we want you!
SOAR appreciates your passion for giving back to the youth in our community and your willingness to serve as a board member.
Any individual with an interest or skills in nonprofits, marketing, accounting, fundraising, human resources, networking, policies and procedures, and law would be an added bonus!

The designated hours per month will be designated to:
Setting up corporate sponsorships and driving fundraising initiatives, which includes driving one fundraising event per quarter (majority of the time)
Attending two 1-hour tactical board meeting every month, which includes pre-meeting preparation and coordination
- Attending one 4-hour strategic board meeting every quarter, which includes pre-meeting preparation and coordination
Regular meetings with the Executive Director to discuss the organization’s status, align on actions and provide accountability for outcomes.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Organization oversight, which includes but is not limited to:
Organization compliance
Organization financial stability
Organization programming
Monitoring and assessing the organization’s programs and their impact
Keeping informed by the organization’s leadership of significant developments and changes in the internal and external environment
Developing, informing, and supporting the board and the board committees to carry out their governance functions
Ensure the Board’s directives, policies, and resolutions are carried out
Developing and maintaining beneficial relationships with donors, funders, supporters, collaborators, allies, vendors, and other stakeholders
Desired Qualifications
Have served on a nonprofit board
Board leadership experience is a plus
Professional experience in the non-profit sector, in business, government, or philanthropy.
A commitment and understanding of the people served by SOAR, preferably based on experience
Savvy diplomatic skills and a natural affinity for cultivating relationships and persuading, facilitating, and building consensus among diverse individuals
Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a passion for improving the lives of at-risk youth
*Service on SOAR’s Board of Directors is without compensation or reimbursement for expenses related to Board Member duties.

Description
Our Vision is to provide services that guide adolescents toward successful future endeavors and encourage them to stay focused regardless of unfavorable influences or circumstances.
At SOAR we provide community mentorship, counseling, advising, and tutoring or educational services to adolescents through interactive and fun-based workshops, shadowing programs, one-on-one and group counseling, life skills education, and college preparation using life experiences and community engagement activities as a resourceful aid. Aimed at helping adolescents rise above life’s challenges and conquer difficult roadblocks in order to become strong and successful individuals and members of our community.
