About the organization

International Student Services Association (ISSA) located in Cleveland, Ohio is a non-profit organization that works directly with lower income immigrant high school students and their families. The overall goal is to identify key components and milestones for successful high school graduation, continuing education and career planning. Students will work with experienced professionals to gain greater awareness of the resources available to them to chart their own journey forward.

Responsibilities
As a volunteer, you will be assigned projects related to the career readiness and college planning programs under the Youth Program Department. Projects that you may expect to take on entirely or partially, are:

  • Assist in outreach
  • Support with the planning and implementation of ISSA youth program
  • Lead or support ISSA career readiness and college prep workshops
  • Lead service-learning projects

Essential job duties

  • Maintaining a safe and supportive environment for all youth
  • Supporting or assisting all major service-learning projects
  • Actively participating in all projects and games
  • Helping promote events and program
  • Assisting team with student activity and lesson planning for classes for the partnership schools
  • Assisting team with student advising materials
  • Participating in weekly staff meetings
  • Leading debriefs before and after each project or activity (as needed)

  • Energized by continuous learning
  • Able to speak some Spanish or Arabic (preferred)
  • Willing to volunteer 15-20 hours/week (some Saturdays)

Important notes

  • This is three month internship program.
  • College credit is available depending on the requirements of your college or university.
  • Students can also qualify to receive the Presidential President's Volunteer Service Award from America Corp and White House.
  • All interns offers are contingent on passing mandatory background check.
