As part of our Volunteer Month celebrations, Food Bank is hosting a virtual service hour and launch party for our newest virtual volunteer opportunity: the Social Media Ambassador Program!
Food Bank's Social Media Ambassador Program is designed as a way for volunteers to amplify resources for New Yorkers facing food insecurity, boost Food Bank's mission on social media, and advocate by using their voices creatively and intentionally online - all while earning volunteer service hours safely from home.
This hourlong launch event will kick off with a conversation between Food Bank's Marketing Team and guest influencer Danielle Bernstein (@WeWoreWhat / @WeGaveWhat) about the power of social media and how it can be used to do good. Participants will then join breakout rooms with Food Bank facilitators to walk through some of the actions they can take on their personal social media accounts to earn service hours while fighting food insecurity.
All attendees will receive a thank-you swag item by mail to help rep Food Bank in future social posts!
Upon request, participants can receive confirmation of 1 hour of volunteer service for attending this event.
WHAT TO EXPECT: The event will open with an introduction to Food Bank's work and a conversation about the power of social media in connecting people with emergency food resources during COVID-19. Participants will then join breakout rooms with Food Bank facilitators to walk through actions they can take on their personal social media accounts.
WHEN: Wednesday, April 21st, 2021 , 6:00pm-7:00pm EST. We ask that all volunteers register in advance to receive the Zoom link.
WHERE: This event will be held via Zoom. A link will be shared by email with all registered participants prior to the event.
WHO: Participants of all ages are welcome. This is a great opportunity for students, groups, and families to honor Volunteer Month with virtual service from home.

Founded in 1983, Food Bank For New York City operates the country's largest food bank, providing community food programs throughout the five boroughs of New York City with food, related products and support services. Today we distribute more than 51 million pounds of food every year to over 1,200 community-based programs that serve free meals to the City's hungry.
