Horse Leader
ORGANIZATION: Morning Dove Therapeutic Riding Center
Please visit the new page to apply.
Each rider has a horse leader who is responsible for the horse before, during, and after a riding lesson. Before the lesson, the horse leader tacks the horse and leads it to the arena for the instructor to check and ensure it is safe for a rider to get on. During the lesson, the horse leader pays attention to the horse, and it needs and behavior. After the lesson, the horse leader returns the horse to the barn and removes the tack.
Horse leaders are required to have equine experience and go through a horse leader assessment/training as needed. They can then either be grandfathered in as a horse leader if they pass the horse leader assessment.
If a side walker wants to become a horse leader, they must first side walk for two sessions (ex., summer and fall sessions, a total of 20 weeks) and complete on-site training to become a horse leader.
Check out our website for more information and to sign up for a Horse Leader training or Assessment.
