The Humane Society/SPCA of Sumter County, Inc. Mission Statement:
- Encouragement of responsible animal ownership practices through education;
- Pursuit of reported incidents of animal cruelty &/or neglect and the taking of appropriate action;
- Providing care for adoptable animals that are injured, abused, unwanted & abandoned, whenever possible;
- Spaying and neutering all animals to be adopted to reduce the unwanted animal population.
Description
The Humane Society/SPCA of Sumter County, Inc. is a volunteer-based NON-PROFIT 501(c)(3) organization whose funding comes only from tax deductible donations.
It is not operated by or connected to Sumter County's Animal Services, which operates under your tax dollars. It is not part of the HSUS or ASPCA organizations nor does it receive funding from them or is a type of chapter.
Did You Know...the Humane Society/SPCA of Sumter County, Inc. provides all its services to Sumter County & its residents...AT NO CHARGE? We offer 2 free programs to low income Sumter residents: The Big Fix Free Spay/Neuter and Kibbles on Wheels Free Pet Food Pantry.
Did You Know...that SPCA stands for Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals? We address cruelty cases within Sumter County, FL & provide cruelty prevention & education.
Did You Know...your the Humane Society/SPCA has a trained DART (Disaster Animal Response Team)?
- Volunteers leave their homes to rescue animals immediately after hurricanes, wildfires & floods...not only in Sumter County, but in other FL counties and states as well. We were in Mississippi, in the aftermath of Hurricanes Charley & Katrina & in The Villages after the Feb. 07 tornadoes reuniting people with their pets!
Did You Know...that your Humane Society/SPCA of Sumter County is raising money to become Central Florida's First "GREEN" Animal Shelter?
- Become a part of Sumter County history during the development of this ground breaking landmark project where we will show our regard for the welfare of animals AND of our community and environment!
It provides humane care in foster homes, public education & "Kibbles on Wheels" and "The Big Fix" Spay/Neuter programs. But we can't do one single thing without your help!
