WHAT: Help close the achievement gap by designing and managing a tutoring program for kids from low-income families living in a WHCHC affordable housing community.
ABOUT WHCHC: The West Hollywood Community Housing Corporation builds homes and provides services that move community members from insecurity to stability.
THE VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY YOU'D LEAD: At "In-Person Tutoring for Underprivileged Students with WHCHC," the volunteers you oversee will both play games and help with homework. Students are a little burned out from school so fun is an essential component!
Note - we might try some virtual tutoring until it's safe to be in person, but ultimately you must be comfortable with leading in person.
AS THE PROJECT LEADER, YOU'D BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:
Designing the tutoring program from the ground up in coordination with L.A. Works and WHCHC
Recruiting volunteers via LA Works' website
Training volunteers
Ensuring volunteers attend
Leading the program on-site
Oversee volunteer tutors assisting students ages 6-16
During summer months, lead students in educational activities and games
Inputting attendance after each session
TIME: 2 weekdays/week, 4:00 - 6:30. Another Project Leader will take the other 2 days in the week. Time commitment should be no more than 10 hours a week.
LOCATION: Elden Ave and Pico Blvd, 90006.
PROJECT LEADER REQUIREMENTS:
Attend a virtual L.A. Works training
Commit to leading the project for 6 months
Respond to all emails/calls within 2 business days

Description
Math AND Science Tutors for elementary, middle school and high school students needed to begin in February 2021 through June 2021. One-on-one tutoring will take place in an outdoor space and/or virtually following all COVID-19 safety protocols. Tutoring will take place Monday through Thursday from 3pm to 5pm. A stipend will be provided. Prefer volunteers who work well with children and youth.
