Garden/Landscaping Volunteers Needed

Scope of Work: Weeding, moving mulch, trimming back overgrowth at the Discovery Center.

Date: Ongoing and flexible scheduled (based around volunteers availability). Volunteers is any time commitment, no minimum.

Perks: Community Service Hours, LOA, t-shirts (pending sizes, no guarantee).

Description of Work/Commitment:

  • We are in need of volunteers to constantly help us upkeep our native gardens. This includes removing weeds and overgrowth, trimming, moving mulch cover etc. No Landscaping experience required, just people who like to be outdoors and are in need of hours, or looking to give back. We provide all the tools. It is labor some. Only recommend a few hours at a time, especially in the rising heats.

What to Wear: Clothes you don’t mind getting dirty, long pants, hat, sunscreen (we have some too), re-usable water bottle, boots if you have them.

Mission Statement

The Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation (AHLF) was established as a non-profit corporation in 1990 to conserve, restore and enhance the environmental features of the Agua Hedionda Lagoon, marsh, wetlands, and watershed areas.

The AHLF operates the lovely Lagoon Discovery Center at 1580 Cannon Road in Carlsbad, where they hold numerous nature related lectures and festivals every year. The Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation also has an award-winning Environmental Stewardship School Program designed for 3rd grades.


The Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation's objective is to:

-Advocate for the lagoon, promoting and assuring future lagoon vitality

-Promote balanced recreational and commercial uses of the lagoon and wetlands

-Provide strong support for public access, trails and recreational opportunities

-Develop and promote, through The Lagoon Discovery Center, educational programs to enhance community and visitor awareness and understanding of water resource and watershed-related environmental issues.
