Code for San Jose (CFSJ) is an all-volunteer powered organization.
We are a chapter of Code for America.
As a chapter, we focus on civic innovation and government technology in San Jose, Silicon Valley, and across the country.
You do not have to be located in San Jose, California in order to volunteer with us.
We welcome everyone interested in solving community problems through technology, user experience design/research, and community partnerships.
Our mission is to make community services more transparent, accessible, and equitable by collaborating with local government and other community-based organizations on civic projects.
We have over 60 active volunteers with over 8 active projects.
Our leadership team consists of 9 other directors, 2 executive directors and 18 project leaders.
As a group, we meet every other Thursday at 6:30 PM PST to sync up and work on projects.
All of our events are posted on meetup.

1. Code for San Jose's inaugural Inclusive Product Week event:
Estimated time commitment: 6-10 hours per week
This role’s goal
Help design the Inclusive Product Week landing page to help ensure that there's a professional front door for prospective attendees, speakers, and sponsors.
The site is built on Squarespace and does not require coding or development knowledge.
This role’s responsibilities:
Help build the website frontend, Content: Work alongside marketing team and volunteers to create the best site experience.

2. City of Seattle's CiviForm Project:
Estimated time commitment: 4-8 hours per week
This role’s goal:
Looking for an accessibility-minded Designer who loves forms!
A full-time team of Google.org Fellows are supporting the City of Seattle to build CiviForm, a responsive web application that will be accessible to users and their Trusted Intermediaries to help streamline applications to civic discount programs.
This role’s responsibilities
UX Research: Design the structure of a usability study
UX Research: Conduct a usability study
Project management: Check in with partners regularly
Product Leadership: Analyze the market space
Visual Design: Create low-fidelity mocks
Visual Design: Create high-fidelity mocks
Visual Design: Iterate and create a cohesive Information Architecture
