Incubator coverlet

Create no sew soft fleece blankets for fragile premature babies receiving services while in New Jersey Neonatal Intensive Care Units ( NICU). We are looking for volunteers to make 2-5 blankets each to be a part of National NICU AWARENESS DAY held on September 30. Help demonstrate our community support for these vulnerable children! The blankets are useful for many purposes, as coverlets for the incubators they help block out the noise and bright lights of the NICU, add color and shapes to the baby’s "scenery" and help uplift mommy’s spirit. The blankets will become treasured keepsakes for baby long after discharge home and will be used as stroller or security blankets in the years ahead. Be a part of
creating a glimmer of light in the challenging days of residency in the NICU. Feel free to send a message of hope along with your blankets for mommy and baby. Kindly reach out with your full contact information so we can send you the pattern and instructions and properly thank you for your donation upon completion of the project. Blankets must be made in compliance with hospital requirements for distribution. Thank you for considering this opportunity!

Mission Statement

Our mission is to facilitate emotional, material and financial support for families of preterm babies before, during and after a hospital NICU stay and those who experienced a prenatal or perinatal loss or stillbirth. We also provide support for hospital NICU facilities to promote high quality care and improve services that address the entire families’ need for instrumental and emotional support.

Description

The organization was born out of love by three women on Valentine’s Day 2020 as a result of our family member’s prenatal and perinatal losses and the birth of one tiny mighty micropreemie who is thriving after 100 days in the NICU. We wished we had more information, resources, preparation and support so we decided to dedicate our time to bringing all of that to others. Our goals are to break the taboos around talking about pregnancy loss and the challenges and trauma faced in the NICU; to advocate for systemic change that improves maternal and child health, makes related mental health and, material and financial support available, reduces the percentage of poor pregnancy outcomes for women of color and grows emotional support programs for fathers who too often suffer in silence. We want to get others involved in taking tangible action steps to support these families, together we can improve high quality hospital NICU facilities, sponsor drives for needed 0-3T clothing, baby supplies, books and equipment, and raise funds to expand follow up care and services for all family members.
