Bit Project is a 501c3 nonprofit that operates free open-source software engineering bootcamps to provide learning opportunities to unrepresented students looking to get into the tech industry. Our bootcamps help students build technical projects from scratch with 1:1 mentorship from seasoned engineers. We are looking for mentors to guide students through our 8-week Intro to Serverless program starting in mid-June 2021. Our unique curriculum serves as an introduction to Serverless Architecture, Azure Functions, JavaScript, and external APIs (application programming interfaces). You can check out the full curriculum on our GitHub repo. This is a great opportunity to give back to the community and help the next generation of software engineers and developers. You will guide students on a passion product while sharing your own knowledge and experiences in order to introduce them to the rapidly growing field of technology.
Responsibilities:
- Provide a one-to-one student mentoring experience as they learn about Serverless Architecture and build and deploy their own static web application
- Mentor 1-3 students throughout the duration of the 8 week program, for a total of 1-3 hours per week
- Develop and maintain genuine, positive, and consistent communication with students
- Share relevant personal/professional experiences about your time in the tech industry
- Experience using APIs and reading documentation
- Experience with the Azure Portal, Visual Code Azure extension
- Knowledge of different Azure use cases (Ex: Function Apps, Logic Apps, etc.)
- Good grasp of Web Dev concepts (frontend, backend)
- Experience with NodeJS, HTML/CSS
