Nyamboyo Technical School
A group opportunity. Invite your friends.
NTS a not-for-profit 3-year vocational school located in the Nyamboyo Village in southwestern Kenya. We provide professional, technical education to the economically disadvantaged teens and young adults of the community. Our students are ages 14-20 and all have family histories of poverty, lack of education and job opportunities, and chronic food insecurity. At NTS, they receive professional vocational training, 3 meals a day to combat hunger and malnutrition, English-language classes, computer training, and daily COVID-safe sports activities. Our students thrive professionally, physically, and psychologically.
School has resumed in Kenya after a 9-month COVID quarantine. Our students have returned and we are recruiting, expanding to 80 students in May 2021. While English is one of the official languages of Kenya, we are dealing with a poor, low-education community and Kiswahili is more commonly understood. We write our material in English and then translate. So we are looking for translators to help with our material ranging from letters to parents, community and school flyers, newsletters and other local marketing materials.
Due to COVID, more and more of the material that we would, in the past, tell parents directly must be sent home in writing. In our community, parent-school communication is critical. When parents understand the importance of education, they make sure their children attend school rather than sending them to work as unskilled, poorly paid day laborers.
You will be making a vital contribution to our students and their families, as well as helping us expand our reach within the community.

Nyamboyo Technical School is transforming young lives, families and communities through vocational education and economic opportunity in Nyamboyo, Kenya.
Nyamboyo Technical is a 3-year vocational school with an entrepreneurial bent! Located in Nyamboyo Village in south-western Kenya, we provide professional, technical education to the economically disadvantaged teens and young adults of the community. They become certified professionals in technical fields where there is growing demand for skilled employees and new businesses. Students also learn business management by running enterprises within the school. In Jan 2020, we launched the first student-led business, selling kerosene.
Ultimately, we are building a positive, prosperous future for our youth, as employees, small business owners, and serial entrepreneurs!
NTS is led by Executive Director, Jones Obiria, a native of Nyamboro, who founded the school because he felt an obligation to lead after he, himself was able to escape poverty through the gift of education. Here in the U.S., a small, dedicated team of two are working to help raise awareness and funds for NTS. In Jones’ words "People save their own lives. Our job is to provide the opportunity. I hope you will join our journey."
