A Child for All ("ACFA") is a U.S. non-profit organization that provides vulnerable children in Mali with a safe and loving environment, which fosters their health, learning, happiness and success. ACFA is growing and now has two locations in Mali where children previously living on the streets have a roof over their heads, are in school and are thriving. We need a self-starter individual who is committed to helping us with bookkeeping duties on a monthly basis. Our ideal candidate is personable, responsible, timely, and enthusiastic and also flexible and committed to working hard. If you want to play an integral role in educating impoverished children and changing more lives here is your opportunity to do so. The time commitment is 5-10 hours a month.

The Bookkeeper is responsible for all Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, General Ledger, and Accounting office duties. This person will manage our QuickBooks (including integration with bank accounts and online giving platforms) to ensure high integrity and quality in tracking income and expenses.

This is a part time remote volunteer position.

Required Skills/Qualifications:

Prior bookkeeping experience
Solid understanding of basic bookkeeping and accounting principles, including accounts payable/receivable
Proven ability to calculate, post, and manage accounting figures and financial records
Hands-on experience with entry-level accounting in QuickBooks
Hands-on experience with Microsoft Excel
Proficient in English, French will be a plus
Available to start immediately
Proactive individual who takes initiative and is independent/critical thinker
Detail-oriented is important for this position- we are a team of visionaries and donor development minded individuals. We need someone to track the details!
Excellent data entry skills
Ability to deliver timely responses to teams, showcase reliability, work remotely, meet deadlines, and showcase a great sense of responsibility
Excellent time management and organizational skills
Willingness to learn & passion for our cause
Knowledge of budgeting process

Preferred Skills/Qualifications

Associate degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration, or CPA certified
QuickBooks experience (especially nonprofit); banking experience and technologically savvy to log into platforms, obtain reports, and share with the Board and staff.


Document transaction details
Enter financial transactions into QuickBooks
Generate financial reports on a monthly basis
Fact-check accounting decisions made by other custodians
Maintain Chart of Accounts
Communicate with vendors and donors with the assistance of the Executive Director on invoices in question and provision of tax-exempt status and on donation matters
Process payables (while verifying proper procedures used and necessary approvals received) from receipt, coding, entry, approval, check writing, online payment, mailing, and hard copy storage
Process receivables from receipt to deposit
Prepare monthly bank reconciliations
Generate adjusting journal entries on a monthly basis
Maintain depreciation accounts
Prepare functional expenses
Assist auditors in the preparation of the audit and tax return
Oversee collection of past due accounts
Maintains the Petty Cash account
Prepare Profit & Loss statements for all special events, fundraisers, etc.
Attend Finance Committee meetings
Attends other meetings when requested

Our current goals are two folds:


We initally intended to raise enough funds to rent a house of the vulnerable children. Instead, thanks to donors like yourself, a house has been donated to us, hence we don't need to spend our scarce financial resources on rent. WE WILL OPEN DOORS TO MALIAN VULNERABLE CHILDREN IN JUNE 2010.

Long term goal: In the long term we would raise enough funds to build our own orphanage on our piece of property.
