Uhuru Furniture and Collectibles is a 501 (c)(3) non profit that strives to bring economic independence to the black community.

As a grant writing intern you will be able to assist with the identification of appropriate grantors, and the execution and timely submission of grant requests, and/or letters of intent. Responsibilities

  • Prospect identification, research, proposal development and writing for specific projects.
  • Accurate and timely production of final proposals.
  • Electronically tracking and documenting communications.
  • Updating and maintaining donor database
  • Participate in bi-weekly meetings and preparing and giving reports
  • Assist in writing grant applications, proofread applications
  • Copy edit applications as needed
Qualifications
  • Undergraduate (junior or senior) or graduate student with experience in English and/or Communications
  • Excellent writing, verbal, proofreading, editing, and professional phone and email communication is required
  • Flexible and self-motivated
  • Detail oriented, with the ability to prioritize under deadlines
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products, specifically Word and Excel, as well as Internet search tools
The successful intern will gain experience in grant writing and research skills that will especially benefit them as they pursue working in the non-profit, government sectors.

Uhuru Furniture and Collectibles is a non-profit store that is a fundraiser for black community empowerment programs of APEDF. We receive a truck load of donated furniture and household items every day. This is a lively, popular Grand Lake area store staffed mostly by volunteers. When you volunteer at Uhuru Furniture, you not only contribute to the success of the store, you become part of a larger movement for peace through social justice. People shop at Uhuru Furniture for low priced, top quality items and to support crucial programs for social justice for African people.
